Bamseom Bugundang Ritual

Bamseom Bugundang Ritual has been held since the establishment of the shrine about 400 years ago when people settled down in Bamseom Island. However, in 1968 when the island’s population exploded due to urban development, the shrine was moved to the current location and the ritual is held there. As a traditional ancestral ritual formality, it is held by the residents gathered together at Bugundang to pray for the village’s safety and prosperity to the tutelary deity on January 2 of the lunar calendar every year. It is a venue for the unity of residents and a living education in traditional culture.
